Why are ordinances protecting urban forests important?
A healthy urban tree canopy helps reduce the urban heat island
effect, improve air quality, reduce stormwater runoff, and
enhances property values and the community connection. City Ordinances are a useful way to ensure that these benefits are protected.

Recommendations
To improve the urban forest in Hopkins, use educational programs for all community members to engage in. These educational opportunities include topics on preventing tree pests and diseases that can endanger the health of urban forests, the importance and methods of tree community preservation, and creating a system of heritage trees that will increase resident interaction and acknowledgement of the importance of preserving Hopkin’s urban forests.
Educational Opportunity Resources
Our group has created multiple flyers and brochures available for use as seen fit. These can be used paired with community outreach to help inform and motivate residents about urban forests!
